Breconshire

The Breconshire Brewery was founded in 2002 as part of C.H.Marlow, a wholesaler and distributor of ales in the south Wales area for over 30 years. The ten barrel plant (sourced from the defunct Pembrokeshire Brewery), was put together and commissioned just in time for Christmas, 2002. It has grown to produce 5,500 litres of beer per week. Head Brewer Justin 'Buster' Grant who holds an MSc in Brewing and Distilling, joined the company following the demise of Brakspears of Henley on Thames. Their water is sourced from under the hills of the surrounding Brecon Beacons National Park, and all of their malt and hops are sourced from UK Farmers.

"We focus on our locality and like to think that we are growing to become an integral part of the community". Breconshire produce a range of cask and bottled beers, and have won a number of local, regional and national awards from both CAMRA and SIBA”.

Breconshire installed their own bottling line in 2007 in order to expand the range of bottled beer they could offer. All their bottled beers are Bottle-Conditioned in the traditional manner. Bottle-Conditioned beer indicates that the beer is unfiltered before being bottled. The idea is that some “living yeast” remains. It is a natural live product which contains yeast for a slow secondary fermentation in the bottle. This process provides wonderful fresh flavours’ and a pleasant, natural effervescence – not artificial carbonation. This is the next best thing to a pint of real draught ale that you could get in a local pub in the UK.

Breconshire welcome visitors to their microbrewery. Feel free to contact Fourcorners if you would like more information about a potential brewery visit.
