New Year, New Beers
February 03, 2012 | Posted By Paul | Comments (0)
In January we brought you Brooklyn Winter Ale for the first time. This seasonal beer is a perfect beer for the cold winter. A Scottish Ale style brew from the portfolio of Garret Oliver. Rich Scottish malts bring a deep bready flavour to the beer with a full copper colour, a round smooth palate and brisk hopping that brings the sweet malts into balance. It pairs well with winter foods such as stews, steaks, lamb, game and pork. Or simply with a fine cigar by the fire. From February, we have 5 new brews for you to try.
From the Brooklyn Brewery we have Sorachi Ace and Black Ops.
Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is a classic saison, a cracklingly dry, hoppy unfiltered golden farmhouse ale, but made entirely with a single hop, Sorachi Ace. It is delivered in a fine champagne style 750ml bottle, so should be the ideal beverage to accompany the romantic Valentine’s Day meal of discerning lovers.
Black Ops is Brooklyn’s now famous beer that “did not exist” as it was being brewed in secret, at considerable cost and without the knowledge of Brooklyn management by the uber- enthusiastic brewers in the brewery. It was so good that word got out to some customers in New York, who demanded the brewery supply it to them. So the brewers had to come clean about its existence. Black Ops is a robust stout aged for four months in Bourbon casks, bottled flat in Brooklyn’s stylish 750ml champagne style bottles, then refermented with Champagne yeast creating big chocolate and coffee flavours with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. I need some!! But seriously limited availability.
And not forgetting Brooklyn’s award winning divine rendition of the Imperial stout style, Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. Yes, it’s back!!
From BrewDog in February, we bring you another 3 fabulous limited edition beers, Abstrakt 08, Paradox Jura and Lost Dog.
Abstrakt 08 is an 11.8%abv deconstructed blonde imperial stout. Yes, a Blonde Imperial stout. Yeah. Sounds mad doesn’t it.
Lost Dog and Paradox Jura is a Rum v. Whiskey conundrum.
Paradox Jura is the long overdue return of Paradox! BrewDog have increased the base beer to 15%abv Imperial stout. The beer is then aged for 12 months in scotch whiskey casks. Wicked!
Lost Dog. A collaborative beer with the Lost Abbey brewery from San Marcos in southern California. It is an 11.8% Imperial Porter aged in rum barrels for 12 months.
And not forgetting we have also introduced Punk IPA on draught. So look out for it in craft beer pubs.
